Do You Want To Be A Electricians?

Being an electrician is an interesting and often challenging career. The work is mentally and physically demanding, but the good pay usually makes up for it. To perform their jobs safely and efficiently, electricians use a variety of tools and equipment on a daily basis. The following serves as a general guide to the most commonly used tools.

Voltage Tester
For safety reasons, electricians want to work on inactive circuits whenever possible. Shutting down the power beforehand is a standard safety procedure, but you can’t be certain that what you’re working on is safe without a good voltage tester, commonly called a test light. These are usually small, hand-held devices, with either one or two contact points. They’re about the size of a pen, and let you check for voltage at different points in a circuit. Testers designed for lower voltage will indicate a detected voltage either by lighting up a small bulb or by some other simple and binary mechanism. More here: Residential Electricians in San Antonio
Lineman’s Pliers
These pliers are used to manipulate wires and cables. They can assist in gripping, bending, cutting and twisting. Many electricians prefer theirs to be insulated, with a rubber coating on the handles in case they need to work on a live voltage circuit, and also to prevent any accidents that might occur, even on a supposedly safe circuit. Multimeter
You can think of these as more advanced voltage testers. They are used to quantify voltage, as well as current and resistance. Some more advanced units can also measure capacitance, conductance, frequency, inductance and more. Multimeters come in both digital and analog versions, though these days, it is harder to find an analog version. A good multimeter can be quite expensive, ranging into hundreds or even thousands of dollars, though most electricians don’t need such an advanced unit.

Fish Tape
This tool is used to guide or route wire through hollow walls and conduits. A plastic reel is used to store the tape, which is usually made from steel, but also made of other durable materials occasionally. The tape is stiff, but flexible enough to manipulate through confined spaces. At the end of the tape, there is usually some sort of hook or other apparatus to hold onto a guide string which creates the path for wires to follow.

Gloves
A good pair of gloves is essential for protecting an electrician’s hands from both physical and electrical dangers. Most electricians carry a few different types of gloves in their toolkit, to fit the job they’re doing at any given time. For safe work where voltage isn’t a danger, it’s still important to keep hands safe from sharp metal edges, which are commonly encountered. Warm gloves are important when working outdoors in the winter, to maintain dexterity and to prevent frostbite. For working on live circuits or when there might be potential voltage hazards, there are insulated gloves available in many different levels of protection. For very high-voltage applications, the gloves are quite thick and go up the forearms. In such situations, a full-body suit and eye protection would probably be used as well.

Boots
Like gloves, a good pair of boots serves multiple purposes. Most construction sites will require you to wear steel-toed boots so that you don’t get your toes crushed by falling objects. When working with electricity, a good pair of insulated boots can help protect you as well. They have non-conductive soles and heels to minimize any electrical hazards that might be present on the ground. These are just some of the tools electricians use most commonly, but they also use more general tools such as hammers, screwdrivers and measuring tapes. Using the correct tool for the job is an important part of being an electrician, and it helps to keep them safe on a daily basis.

Air Conditioning – Window Units.

If you do not have the luxury of having central air conditioning in your home, you may find that you are spending more and more time in front of your refrigerator this summer to stay calm. If you have your choice of installing one window unit air conditioner, chances are that you will choose to install it in your bedroom. Would you like to know some helpful tips for AC installation? Here are 5 basic tips for installing a window unit air conditioner. More about: Air Conditioning Services New-Braunfels here

INSTRUCTIONS

1) If you have an older or a huge air conditioner, you will find that it will rest on external brackets. However, most modern-day units will rest on sill-mounted supports. Ensure you follow the helpful tips for AC installation with your newly purchased unit. If the mounts are not installed properly, when you raise the sash, the air conditioner could fall from the window and damage not only the unit but everything that happens to be underneath it. Before you install your air conditioner, examine the window sill first. If it seems soft or even partially rotten, you may wish to replace the sill or look for another window in which to put your air conditioner.

2) You must screw one end of the bracket with your air conditioning unit into the window sill. A center screw must be adjusted to ensure the unit is level and to provide concentration drainage. If the frame of your window is metal, then to install the brackets, you must use sheet-metal screws. To set the air conditioner in place, open the window wider than necessary. Now follow the helpful tips for AC installation in the instructions that come with your unit. If your air conditioner is too heavy, find someone to help you lift the unit. As you slide the unit into the window’s opening, a pocket can be found underneath the unit, which will lock in place over the bracket.

3) When you put the air conditioner inside the window’s opening, you will find extensions on both sides of the unit that you will open out. This will close up any gaps between the window and the air conditioner. Fasten each extension to the window sash only after each extension fits snuggly against the window.

4) Most air conditioners are provided with angle brackets that will secure the two window sashes. This will ensure that they are secured over your air conditioning unit.

5) To seal the AC installed inside, use the foam strip that usually comes with most air conditioning units. This is done to fill the air gap where the window sashes overlap. Go outside to caulk the unit, check the owner’s manual for operation and maintenance, plug in your unit, and enjoy a wonderfully cool room.
